Vermont Democratic Party Unanimously Endorses Congressman Peter Welch

Montpelier, VT - On Saturday, the Vermont Democratic Party’s State Committee voted unanimously to endorse Congressman Peter Welch as the party’s candidate for the office of United States Representative in the 2010 election.

"In his three years as a United States Congressman, Peter Welch has shown time and again that he is a hardworking, outspoken advocate for all Vermonters. From the moment he took office, he has worked to bring Vermont's innovative ideas to Washington and provide Vermonters a seat at the table during the important debates of our time," said VDP Chair Judy Bevans.

Among Congressman Welch's achievements, he authored the Retrofit for Energy and Environmental Performance (REEP) bill, which would create well over a half-million jobs, retrofit millions of homes and businesses and increase energy efficiency by 20% nationally. Congressman Welch has also been a leader in the fight to reform the way our nation administers health care. He is also working to help Vermont and other states confront a shortfall in Unemployment Insurance funds by introducing legislation that would extend a waiver in interest payments to the federal government through the end of 2012.

"I am grateful for the unanimous endorsement of the Vermont Democratic State Committee, and for all of the hard work they do to help candidates up and down the ticket. I look forward to working with all Vermonters as we continue to confront our nation's challenges in 2010," said Congressman Welch.
